Makabayan bloc prepares lawsuits against red taggers

On 9 May, 2024, the Makabayan block in the Philippines’ House of Representatives announced that it was ready to prosecute those behind Red-tagging that violated the rights of many leaders and activists in recent years, as reported Ang Bayan on 12, May, 2024. The block acknowledged the Supreme Court decision that declared Red-tagging as a threat to life, liberty and security to the victims. The block deemed Red-tagging victims should be awarded writs of amparo, as was done to former Bayan Muna representative Siegfried Deduro.

Envi activists tortured by probable state agents during abduction

NDFP represents Red political power – CPP on NDFP's 51st anniversary

On the 51st founding anniversary of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) last 24 April 2024, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) affirmed the NDFP’s representation as “the totality of the organs of political power, until the People’s Democratic Government can be formally established upon nationwide victory.”

‘Marcos is the real terrorist,’ says CPP on recent ATC designation

Last April 17, 2024, the Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines published the statement of the Anti-Terrorism Council redesignating the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the New People’s Army (NPA) as ‘terrorist organizations.’ In a separate seven-page resolution, the ATC also designated a certain Elizabeth Pineda Principe as a ‘terrorist’ for being a member of the CPP and the NPA.

AFP drops more bombs in Abra, Ilocos Sur amid El Niño crisis

On April 2, 2024, the Philippine Air Force bombed and fired rockets in the area of Gapay Village, Pilar, Abra Province, a mountainous area near the boundary with Ilocos Sur Province. The bombings displaced and affected the livelihood of 212 families. It also forced the closure of schools and evacuation of families.

Groups condemn US-Japan-PH trilateral summit

On April 11, 2024 Marcos Jr. joined US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in the first trilateral summit in Washington.
Over 100 Filipino-American activists staged protests outside the White House in Washington D.C. against the recent trilateral meeting. The protests, led by BAYAN USA, were mounted simultaneously in cities including Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Honolulu, to denounce what the activists describe as President Biden’s detrimental “ironclad alliance” with the Philippines.
Balikatan war games turn PH into military camps versus China
