Walk the talk on paying taxes, Marcos urged

ACT Teachers Partylist and House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro urged President Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. to “walk the talk” on payment of taxes. Castro’s statement was in response to Marcos Jr’s call for the public “to pay the correct amount of taxes on time to support the country’s economic recovery” in a speech he delivered during the launch of the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) national tax campaign in Pasay City, Philippines on 7 February 2023.

ICC to resume investigation into Duterte’s drug war

On January 26, 2023, the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) granted Prosecutor Karim Khan's request to resume investigation into the drug-related killings in the Philippines. In its announcement, the ICC said is, “not satisfied that the Philippines is undertaking relevant investigations that would warrant a deferral of the Court’s investigations on the basis of the complementarity principle.”

CPP: ‘Half-done coup, increased repression with Año appointment as NSA’

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) in a statement issued 15 January 2023, revealed that the appointments of former Duterte military henchmen such as Gen. Eduardo Año to key defense and security agencies is halfway towards a coup-de-etat, coupled with increasing political repression and war of suppression.

Justice for OFW murdered in Kuwait, demanded

Relatives and friends of Jullebee Ranara continue to demand justice for her murder. Ranara, a domestic worker, was found dead in a Kuwait desert on January 22. It was believed that she was raped before her killing.

CPP: ”Localized Peace Talks”, camouflaged state terrorism, will fail

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on 27 December 2022 condemned the ”localized peace talks” peddled in the media by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ”to hide from the public view the de facto state of martial law and rampant violations of human rights.”

CPP condemns AFP for its “dirty war against infants and pregnant women”

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on 7 January 2023 condemned the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for abducting at least four pregnant women “with the aim of using them against the New People’s Army (NPA)” to surrender.

‘Victory of truth and justice’ – groups hail dismissal of charges vs activists in PH

A local Philippine court dismissed on 9 January 2023 a trumped-up perjury case against 10 human rights activists initiated by former National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. Esperon Jr. accused the said activists of lying when they sought protection from the Supreme Court against feared state-sponsored attacks.
