Protesters condemn G7 hypocrisy and warmongering

Hundreds marched the streets of Hiroshima City on 19 May to protest against the Group of 7 (G7) which held its summit in Japan. Protesters gathered in the Peace Memorial Park, carrying slogans “No to War-themed Conference!“ and “G7 is the cause of war!” The demonstrations were part of the International Day of Action Against the G7 held in several countries on 18-20 May 2023.
51% of Filipino Families consider themselves poor

The Social Weather Stations (SWS), a survey organization in the Philippines conducted a recent survey showing that 51% of Filipino families considered themselves poor. The survey, which was conducted last March 26-29 showed that 30% rated themselves as “borderline,” meaning they placed themselves on a line between poor and not poor. 19% of respondents considered themselves not poor.

NPA Southern Panay mounts 4 armed actions in 6 days

At least four consecutive armed operations were launched by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Southern Panay since 2 May, according to NPA – Napoleon Tumagtang Command.

Groups concerned over Red-tagger Sara Duterte as NTF-ELCAC exec

Progressive mass organizations in the Philippines expressed alarm over the designation of Vice President Sara Duterte, already serving as the Secretary of Education, as co-vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac). Meanwhile, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), pointed out that Sara Duterte’s entry into the NTF-Elcac is a maneuver of the Duterte family to wrest more power in the Marcos administration.

Workers march united for jobs, wages, rights in PH Labour Day

Last 29 April, in a press briefing by the labor federation Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) and the All Workers Union, KMU Secretary General Jerome Adonis said “This First of May, we have a runaway president. BBM (Marcos), running away from the workers who have legitimate demands.”

Belligerent action of China in Ayungin Shoal, denounced

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) condemned the latest aggressive and dangerous actions of the Chinese Coast Guard in the waters surrounding Ayungin Shoal, a Philippine occupied maritime feature in the Spratly Islands and well within the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

CPP condemns brutal killing of Tiamzons, 8 others

The 'brutal torture and cowardly killing' of Benito Taimzon and Wilma Austria-Tiamzon was condemned by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) in a statement issued on 20 April 2023.
