‘Victory of truth and justice’ – groups hail dismissal of charges vs activists in PH

A local Philippine court dismissed on 9 January 2023 a trumped-up perjury case against 10 human rights activists initiated by former National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. Esperon Jr. accused the said activists of lying when they sought protection from the Supreme Court against feared state-sponsored attacks.

International groups, Norwegian government pay tribute to Ka Joma

Hundreds of messages of tributes, solidarity and condolences poured in from progressive groups and political parties around the world including the Royal Norwegian Government, on the passing of Prof. Jose Maria “Ka Joma” Sison, Founding Chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and Chief Political Consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). The week-long wake and public viewing lasted from 18 to 23 December followed by cremation ceremonies on 27 December 2022 in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

CPP declares no holiday ceasefire

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines announced on 19 December, that it will not declare a ceasefire during the Christmas and New Year holidays. There is absolutely no reason to declare a ceasefire,” the CPP said.

Groups mount protest vs Marcos Jr. Brussels visit

The Philippine patriotic alliance Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Europe led protest actions on 14 – 15 December against Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr, who was in Brussels, Belgium to attend the convening of the EU-ASEAN Interbloc Summit.

CPP pays tribute to Ericson Acosta, condemns the AFP

The Communist Party of the Philippines gave the highest tribute to Ericson Acosta, an award-winning playwright and poet during a memorial meeting held on 7 December 2022 in the University of the Philippines in Quezon City. Ericson served as a resource person of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines in drafting the Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reforms during peace negotiations with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.

Groups press removal of Luis Jalandoni’s ‘terror tag’

Various groups led by the International League of Peoples’ Struggle gathered in front of the Philippine Department of Justice on 9 December 2022 to submit a petition for the removal of the terrorist designation of Luis ‘Louie’ Jalandoni by the Manila government’s Anti-Terrorist Council. “We call on all democratic and peace-loving forces to join us in defending the rights of Luis Jalandoni and fight against his unjust designation,” said ILPS Secretary General Liza Maza.

NPA scores 7 military actions in Bukidnon, Negros and Masbate

The New People’s Army launched at least seven victorious military actions against the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in multiple areas across the provinces of Bukidnon, Negros, and Masbate in the past month.
