Several member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council expressed concern about the human rights situation in the Philippines during the Universal Periodic Review Working Group’s formal session on 14 November in Geneva, Switzerland.

NDFP condemns AFP abuse of children in the civil war

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines condemned the Armed Forces of the Philippines for grave violations of children’s rights, as revealed in a special report of the Communist Party of the Philippines released on 20 November.

NPA Cagayan Valley unveils literacy program for Red fighters

The New People's Army in Isabela province, in the northern Philippine region of Cagayan Valley, has recently developed a literacy and numeracy program especially designed for NPA members who do not know how to read, write and do simple math.

CPP exposes AFP-PNP war crimes

The Communist Party of the Philippines published on 29 October a report on the war crimes committed by security forces of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines in the past six years. The report, “AFP and PNP War Crimes” focused on cases of “summary executions” committed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and other armed agents of the Manila government against civilians, non-combatants and hors de combat belonging to the CPP, New People’s Army and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

Philippine workers demand wage increases, job security

NPA hits AFP units in 4 provinces in 2 weeks

The New People’s Army mounted successive attacks on various units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines across the country in early October, killing at least 12 AFP soldiers and injuring several others. The NPA targeted ‘the most notorious’ AFP units terrorizing Philippine rural communities.
