Guerrilla fighters of the New People’s Army (NPA) continue to log their latest successful battles.
Last July 13, NPA fighters belonging to the Lucio de Guzman Command in Mindoro Island, south of Manila, ambushed a police convoy in Barangay Bagong Silang, Oriental Mindoro killing two fascists police.
Comrade Madaay Gasic, NPA spokesperson in Mindoro said this was in response to the people’s clamor for justice to punish the combined forces of the fascist army and police for their terrorist campaigns in the towns of Central Oriental Mindoro. The heavy fascist troop presence and terrorism in the area, he stressed, are meant to protect destructive and anti-people projects such as the nickel mining project in Victoria town.
The whole island of Mindoro is under a virtual martial rule as terrorist soldiers and police prohibit the people from going to their farms and fishing areas, ransacking their homes, threatening and harassing the people, and other repressive anti-people acts.
The AFP and PNP are targeting the civilian population with fascist repression after suffering from successive humiliating military defeats from battles with NPA guerrillas in Socorro town last November 2024 and in the town of Pola last February.
Last July 11, the New People’s Army (NPA)-Northern Negros (Roselyn Jean Pelle Command) carried out the death penalty punishment on Revolutionary Proletarian Army (RPA) element Junsly Vallente in Sitio Harvey, Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental. Vallente was punished for his involvement in various crimes against the peasant masses and for serving as a 79th IB intelligence agent. Retrieved from him were a .45 pistol, five magazines, and ammunition.
NPA-Northern Negros spokesperson Ka Cecil Estrella said Vallente’s notable crimes included the indiscriminate shooting at a farmers’ camp in 2012 in Sitio Minauyahan, Barangay Minautok in Calatrava, which injured many farmers and killed seven carabaos. He was also involved in the killing a resident of Cadiz City. Over several years, 18 carabaos were killed by Vallente depriving the farmers a very important means in their livelihood. He was also an armed aide to a warlord and land grabber.
The RPA, wherein Vallente was a member, is an armed group founded by Arturo Tabara and Nilo de la Cruz from former members of the NPA, mainly on Negros Island. The counterrevolutionary group was established in 1996 as the armed wing of the Revolutionary Workers’ Party of the Philippines, a rejectionist group that bolted the CPP and rejected the decision of the 10th Plenum of the Central Committee of the Party and the Second Great Rectification Movement. The RPA and the Alex Boncayao Brigade, another rejectionist group, later merged and formally signed an agreement in 2000 with the reactionary government of Estrada and have since then become active AFP partners against the revolutionary movement and the Filipino people. Many of them have become Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit members and served as AFP agents.
Last July 4, the New People’s Army (NPA)-South Central Negros (Romeo Nanta Command) paralyzed and burned two dump trucks and one backhoe used in the destructive quarry operation in Sitio Medel, Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental. The total damage to the three quarry machines amounts to an estimated Php11 million.
NPA-South Central Negros spokesperson Ka Dioneso Magbuelas said residents have long complained about the quarry operation because of its impact on the Paniplan River and that the continued excavations in the area deepened the river depriving the surrounding farmlands of irrigation.
The quarry operation is severely detrimental to the residents’ lives and livelihood. Crossing the excavation-deepened river has also become dangerous for residents. The people were forced to sign a consent agreement to allow its operations and the fascist 94th IB was used to intimidate residents, distribute bribe money, and employ other divisive tactics to railroad the quarry operation.
“The NPA-South Central Negros’ punitive action serves as a reminder to companies and individuals against violating the human rights and livelihoods of the people in the name of profit,” Ka Dioneso stressed. He also warned that the people’s army will not hesitate to defend the people and the environment against quarries, mines, and destructive projects.
