Several units of the New People’s Army (NPA) reported successful tactical operations against the Marcos regime’s armed forces, belying the oft repeated claims of the regime that the NPA has been decimated.
On June 26, 2025, the NPA-North Central Mindanao Region reported an encounter with the soldiers 28th Infantry Battalion in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. A lieutenant, a corporal and two other soldiers where killed while two others were wounded.
The Red army fired first at the walking soldiers and withdrew safely after ten minutes. The soldiers of the 28th IB continued firing blindly for another 30 minutes. The defeated IB later retaliated by firing six artillery shells at the farm of the residents, causing fear among the residents and destruction of their livelihood.
On June 14, 2025, the NPA-Central Negros (Leonardo Panaligan Command) fired an M203 grenade at the operating troops of the 62nd IB in Barangay Imelda, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on June 14. The attack killed three soldiers. Residents said the soldiers stealthily transported the bodies to the city in the night to conceal their loss. They said the soldiers did this in previous incidents to protect their image of “victory” against the people’s army. Other NPA operations were also reported in other areas.
The NPA-Northern Negros (Roselyn Jean Pelle Command), on June 26, 2025, carried out a punitive action against a notorious rapist in Toboso, Negros Occidental, who perpetuated several counts of rape, terrorizing women and the young and vulnerable. He was earlier charged for rape in the rectionary court but remained scott-free until now.
He remained unrepentant even when charged in the revolutionary people’s court. He fiercely resisted arrest. Seized from his possession were two pistols and a submachine gun with magazines and ammunition.
In the Eastern Visayas Region, the NPA-Leyte Island (Mt. Amandewin Command), followed the decision of the People’s Democratic Government to punish an active agent of the 93rd IB who was responsible for two 93rd IB raids on NPA units and key role in the death and capture of several Red fighters and residents.
In Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, the NPA-South Central Negros (Romeo Nanta Command), on June 24, in accordance with the decision of the Revolutionary People’s Court, punished an active military asset of the 94th IB. The asset was active the year before in guiding the soldiers of the 94th IB in raiding the residents houses suspected of harboring the NPA and forcing the masses in fake surrenders, torturing and killing them.
The failure of the regime to quash the revolutionary forces is exemplified by an article in Ang Bayan on June 21, 2025. Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, commander of the 79th IB is stepping down from his two-year post as a failure.
When he assumed the post on June 29, 2023, he promised to continue the “success” of his predecessors in crushing the area’s revolutionary movement. They declared on April 6, 2021 that they have dismantled the Northern Negros guerilla front. This is a delusion.
The NPA-Leyte Island Command stated that, following the rectification movement among the ranks of the revolutionary movement, the Red army resolved the problem of self-constriction and raised their capability in guerilla tactics of concentration, shifting, dispersal and quick movement.
The Red army managed to maintain their forces and expand their area of operations. The NPA-Northern Negros could carry out more than 20 offensive operations during Calaoagan’s term. Contrary to Calaoagan’s pronouncements of dwindling NPA in the area, the unit recorded a 12% increase in the number of full-time Red fighters. The unit also increased the number of people’s militia in the area by almost 20%.
