Philippine nurses resign en masse

Nurses in the Philippines are resigning en masse, because they are underpaid and have long working hours in the frontlines of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Their demands for better working conditions and higher pay have been rejected by the government, despite the hospitals having fulfilled all the requirements for the release of the pandemic compensatory funds.

Philippine police massacre civilians in Masbate

Armed elements of the Philippine National Police killed five civilians in their home in Bugtong village, Mandaon town, Masbate province in the early hours of 24 October. The PNP named only one of their victims, Ernie Rosero, claiming that he was a New People’s Army official and that all five were killed in a “gunfight” with the police.

NDFP condemns US kidnapping of Venezuelan diplomat Saab

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines condemned the US government on 28 October for the “abduction, imprisonment and kidnapping without extradition orders of Venezuelan diplomat, Alex Nain Saab Moran” on 16 October. The NDFP called for the immediate release and return to Venezuela of Mr. Saab.

Philippine doctors outraged over Covid-19 funds abuses

More than 300 doctors from the Philippine College of Physicians issued an “Expression of Indignation and Call to Action” on 11 October, protesting corruption in the Duterte government amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the health professionals are condemning President Rodrigo Duterte’s attempts to block the investigations of the Philippine Senate on anomalies in the disbursements of COVID-19 response funds.

Duterte, Marcoses colluding to hijack 2022 Elections – CPP

The Communist Party of the Philippines on 7 October painted a “horrid image” of the 2022 Elections saying “It is becoming crystal clear how it will be used to perpetuate the Duterte clique in power and pave the way for the Marcoses’ return to Malacañang.”

AFP commits war crimes in series of operations

The Communist Party of the Philippines reported on 7 October that the Armed Forces of the Philippines committed several acts in violation of international humanitarian law in the last couple of weeks, including the killing of hors de combat and bombings of rural villages.

Investigate PH: Hold government officials accountable for rights violations

The Independent International Commission of Investigation into Human Rights Violations in the Philippines INVESTIGATE PH released its Final Report on 13 September, calling on the international community to hold the officials of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines accountable “for the thousands of violations of human rights and international humanitarian law carried out as official state policies.”
