The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) supports Nicaragua’s refusal to be dragged into the US-NATO proxy war in Ukraine, according to a statement it issued last 30 July.

The NDFP stated that it “supports Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega’s demand that European countries respect his nation and their decision not to sign the final declaration of the summit between the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).”

In the third EU-CELAC Summit in Brussels on June 17 and 18 this year, Nicaragua refused to sign the final declaration because it did not include the suspension of the unjust coercive and unilateral measures against Venezuela and Nicaragua, since they violate human rights.

Moreover, the Nicaraguan proposal that the EU-CELAC document to include an exhortation to the United States not to deliver cluster bombs to Ukraine, was not contained in the declaration.

“Even as the US pours billions of dollars into the war in Ukraine, it is busy increasing its military presence in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and other Asian countries, as part of its preparations of the theater of war against China,” said the NDFP.

Nicaragua also demanded that President Joe Biden comply with the ruling of the International Court of Justice, which requires the United States to compensate Nicaragua for the “acts of terrorism” committed against it in the 1990s.

In the statement, the NDFP demanded “an end to the US-NATO war in Ukraine against Russia, and to US imperialist warmongering and war preparations elsewhere in the world.”
