The New People’s Army (NPA)-North Quezon refuted the recent declaration of the Quezon provincial government that the province is “insurgency free”. Eliza “Ka Eli” dela Guerra, spokesperson of the NPA unit, said in the 23 June, 2023, that this declaration is only to pave way to the destructive and rapacious projects in the province.
Quezon was declared “insurgency-free” in an assembly led by Governor Tan and officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, on 12 June, on the fake independence day. Tan claimed that the declaration is the start of “increased tourism, expansion of commerce and progress in the whole province of Quezon.”
But, according to Ka Eli, these projects including the devastative Kaliwa Dam and Kanan Dam by the New Centennial Watersource Project will engulf areas of General Nakar and Infanta towns.
“This will bring devastation to the Sierra Madre Mountains, and, especially in the worsening climate change, fearful floods may ravish the population and the land when intense typhoons arrive.”
The town of Real is also threatened by the Real Wind and Energy Project which the regime bandies as a renewable energy project, but in reality is a scheme to drive masses of peasants away from their land totaling 5,670 hectares. In the Polillo Group of Islands, ravenous companies including Alphaland are also poised to launch destructive projects.
Ka Eli said the regime’s officials touted the use of “whole-nation-approach” as a key program for counter-insurgency, but in essence is a strategy to suppress the national and democratic struggles of the people of Quezon.
“The Quezonians are raging in anger against the fake development projects that will destroy their life and livelihood and further submerge them in poverty.” The revolution in the province will never stop for as long as the people are oppressed and exploited, Ka Eli asserted.
